Carrie Yan is a partner of Global Law Office (GLO) based in Beijing. Her main practice areas include intellectual property and dispute resolution, with a focus on Patent Law and Anti-unfair Competition Law. With over 16 years of experience in the field of intellectual property (IP), including nearly five years of experience in patent examination and more than 11 years of experience in IP litigation, Carrie previously served as the lead partner for telecommunications and electrical litigation at a leading PRC domestic IP law firm.

 

Carrie Yan possesses a combined educational foundation in both electrical engineering and law. She specializes in complex and challenging IP litigation related to technology, with particular expertise in patent litigation and related patent invalidation cases, as well as civil and criminal cases involving trade secrets, software copyright litigation in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), communications, semiconductors, electrical engineering, electrochemistry, computer science, mechanical automation, new energy, and new materials. To date, Carrie has handled more than 200 IP dispute cases, representing well-known, top technology companies from both domestic and international markets. Some cases handled by Carrie have been selected by the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate as the typical IP cases in China.

 

Recent representative cases, including but not limited to:

  • Successfully represented a Japanese company in invalidating several core patents held by a leading U.S. reinforced glass manufacturing company, and won the subsequent administrative lawsuits (the related case was selected as the typical IP case of 2024 by the Supreme People's Court).
  • Successfully represented a Chinese SME in dozens of cross-patent litigation and related patent invalidation proceedings, software copyright infringement litigation, civil and criminal litigation for trade secrets against a state-owned enterprise, winning the vast majority of the cases (the related case was selected as the typical IP case of 2024 by the Supreme People's Procuratorate).
  • Successfully represented several well-known technology companies from both domestic and international markets in persuading the PRC Supreme People’s Court to overturn a series of patent invalidation decisions and first-instance judgements.
  • Successfully represented a leading power battery company in a series of patent infringement lawsuits against several infringers, securing favorable outcomes.
  • Represented a famous telecommunication company in analyzing infringement and validity issues related to a series of LTE SEPs in preparation for the counter-lawsuits against another famous telecommunication company, leading to a favorable license agreement before filing the lawsuits.
  • Represented several multinational telecommunication companies in a series of patent infringement and administrative lawsuits against a leading U.S. telecommunication company, securing favorable outcomes.
