TJ Zhang specializes in M&A, PE/VC and general corporate matters, with a strong focus on insurance, advanced manufacturing, energy and natural resources, pharmaceutical, technology, real estate, logistics and consumer goods.
With extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional transactions, TJ has assisted both domestic and foreign clients with smooth closing of a great number of complex cross-border M&As and joint ventures, in which deals he is adept at helping clients quickly understand the different legal systems and market practices, so as to resolve the issues effectively. TJ’s work highlights include advising China Construction Bank on its acquisition of banks in Brazil and Indonesia, respectively; JISCO on its acquisition of UC Rusal’s alumina refinery plants in Jamaica; Yanfeng Automotive Trim Systems on its restructuring with Johnson Controls in connection with automotive interiors businesses of both parties integrated in Shanghai Free Trade Zone; Alibaba-backed eWTP Technology Innovation Fund on its investment in Edupia in Vietnam; Mercuria on its disposal of Henry Bath’s majority stake to CMST Development; Demant A/S’ RMB1,750 million full acquisition of Sheng Wang in China; Office Depot on the disposal of its mainland China business to Shanghai M&G COLIPU.
In respect of PE/VC, TJ has represented RMB denominated funds and US denominated funds on their investment in the industries of hardcore technology, new energy, new materials and healthcare. Those funds include CICC Capital, Hillhouse, Goldstone Investment, Xiang He Capital and China Renaissance.
TJ also regularly advises on general corporate matters for companies in diverse industries, including insurance, education, healthcare, retail and consumer products, fintech, TMT and etc.
Prior to joining GLO, TJ has practised 13 years in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai offices of leading UK and PRC domestic law firms.
